This is a photo of the young man that took us to met his family, near Bayanjarglan. I like to call this photo 'young love and the smell of mutton fat'. These two are newly weds. I sat next to the guy in the van - and he oozed the smell of mutton fat. He seemed to be talking alot about guns and hunting and riding horses and motorbikes - but on the drive he also started singing the most beautiful and haunting song.... with an angelic voice.

On our trip to the Herlen river - this was our transport. A very popular russian vehicle which doesn't look like much but makes Mongolia's bumpy roads and tracks bearable. This photo is on 'the best road in mongolia'; the highway that runs from UB towards to the Chinese border (but it hasn't been finished yet).

This is the view from our apartment living room looking out to the mountains that envelope the city
This is a photo from downtown UB. This is a statue of Lenin - a remnant from Mongolia's communist/ soviet infused past.

this is me at Terelj national park - just north east of UB. The landscape was brown and stark but amazing all the same.

It would appear that Julia has some mongolian ancestry.
