(photo from January 2006, snapped on the side of road on the way to Kharkorum the ancient capital. There were many falcons resting on the road signs. The wind was dead and there are not any trees to rest on so i suppose it makes sense to rest on a road sign. Mongolia is filled with all sorts of wildlife - vultures and falcons, birds galore in the summer time - ducks, swans, storks, sparrows, pigeons.. i've also seen rare ibex, and argali sheep, white tailed gazelles in the hundreds, a fox, marmots, ground squirrels and many other critters that i don't even have names for. what a country. Posted by Picasa

Look at that guy, sitting up there so he can see forever. Man, sometimes I wish I was a bird. I would prefer not to be a vulture, though. Maybe an eagle or a falcon. Great picture!

i have often thought i would love to come back as a sea eagle. They have it really good. They live on the cliffs by the sea, they have their own territory but mates nearby, they can live up a river if they want to - they can just glide forever in the blustering updrafts over their coastal headland, and they get to eat fish! what more could you ask for.
